The SEC received 24 8-K Item 2.02 (earnings announcement) filings on July 24.

Today's SEC Earnings Filings

More than half of today's earnings releases came from regional banks. Fourteen bank holding companies — Princeton Bancorp (BPRN), First Mid Bancshares (FMBH), Oak Valley Bancorp (OVLY), Business First Bancshares (BFST), First Western Financial (MYFW), OP Bancorp (OPBK), Amerant Bancorp (AMTB), S&T Bancorp (STBA), Hilltop Holdings (HTH), First Citizens BancShares (FCNCA), Huntington Bancshares (HBAN), National Bankshares (NKSH), C&F Financial (CFFI), and ACNB Corp (ACNB) — jointly disclosed quarterly results via SEC 8-K Item 2.02 filings.

Earnings filings also continued in the real estate and industrials sectors. Data center REIT Digital Realty Trust and logistics REIT Rexford Industrial Realty each disclosed quarterly results via SEC 8-K Item 2.02 filings, and corrugated packaging maker Packaging Corporation of America (PKG) also reported earnings.

In healthcare, West Pharmaceutical Services (WST), cardiac device maker AtriCure (ATRC), and oncology drug developer Summit Therapeutics (SMMT) released results.

Elsewhere, gold miner Newmont (NEM), exchange operator Nasdaq (NDAQ), tool maker Snap-on (SNA), pawn and small-loan company FirstCash Holdings (FCFS), and mortgage servicer Altisource Portfolio Solutions (ASPS) also disclosed quarterly results via SEC 8-K Item 2.02 filings on the same day.

Earnings Surprises and Guidance

Big Tech earnings rattled the market. According to Teslarati, Tesla shares plunged after its earnings release, marking one of the stock's steepest-ever drops, while Investor's Business Daily reported that the Nasdaq index tumbled on the back of weak results from Alphabet and Tesla. The Motley Fool attributed the selloff to concerns over Tesla's expanding AI investments.

Sentiment was mixed across the broader earnings season. According to Investing.com, SLM Corporation (Sallie Mae) shares fell after second-quarter profit missed estimates, while SS&C Technologies beat expectations but its stock was little changed. MaxLinear and World Kinect both topped estimates, though MaxLinear fell in after-hours trading while World Kinect surged. JAKKS Pacific beat estimates yet saw its shares slip slightly, and SkyWest missed estimates due to fuel cost pressures.

Korean Company Earnings

According to Nate, NH Investment & Securities assessed that Hyundai Motor's quarterly results confirmed a bottom, with expectations building toward the company's August CID (corporate investor day). Newsis reported that despite rising global oil prices and interest rate pressures, strong earnings from Intel are bolstering hopes for a defensive rally in domestic semiconductor stocks.
